If you can think back to the first manicure you performed on yourself or someone else, the entire process probably seemed straightforward. Then just as you started you already ran into some problems. Am I supposed to clean the nail with anything prior to applying the nail polish? Is it really necessary for me to use a top coat? Don’t feel bad, these aren’t things a novice to nail care should know. Probably one of the biggest hurdles when it comes to painting nails is keeping nail polish away from areas that it is not intended for. Perhaps you may have accidentally applied nail polish to the skin that sits right above your nails in the past. This can be a real pain to remove and in the process you might actually ruin the entire job if you’re not careful with the acetone. One of the biggest hurdles a novice faces when it comes to nail painting is keeping nail polish out of the crease that separates the lower portion of our fingernail from the skin. If you go just a little over that boundary point, it makes for a very odd looking manicure. It takes skill acquired from many hours of practice before you can color this area without making a mistake. Fortunately, repairing accidents isn’t as big of a feat at is appears to be.
The thing to remember when dealing with the skin crease is to repair the problem early on. If you let the nail polish settle, it will be much more cumbersome to go in and remove the excess. You should always have a q-tip or small cotton ball handy for whenever you accidentally go over the skin crease. Give the area a quick wipe to see if the nail polish comes out. You can dab the q-tip with a small amount of acetone for quicker removal, just be extremely careful when maneuvering around the crease.
It may be better as a beginner to give yourself some room between the cuticle and the skin crease where the nail will remain unpainted. This way, you minimize the possibility of any mishaps. As you get more practice, you will be able to move closer towards the skin.
Don’t forget the importance of keeping your work area clean and organized. A metal polish rack can be a godsend in making your assortment of nail polishes quickly accessible. A plastic cosmetics organizer is also a fine choice if you have a smaller collection to deal with.
