Should you use the self tanning services provided by your local tanning salon? What is spray tanning and how does it work? Self tanning provided by salons is affordable, natural and effective.
Spray Tanning
Many tanning salons offer spray tanning services such as Mystic Tan. I prefer the air brushing method because it looks more natural and the spray tan can look a bit orange depending on the company. Spray tanning is less expensive than air brushing and is usually between $15 – $30.
Before you tan, an attendant at the tanning salon will instruct you on the best poses so that your entire body is sprayed correctly. You may choose to go naked or wear a bathing suit. Nobody will be in the room with you so it is your personal preference what you would like to do.
Before stepping into the booth you will put a special lotion on your toenails, nails, knees, elbows and ears which will keep these parts from absorbing too much self tanner and making you look orange. You will also be provided a cap to cover your hair so that the spray tan does not get on it. When you begin the machine it will talk to you and tell you which way to turn. Once you are in the desired position, jets will spray each side of your body with self tanner.
After your spray tan, you will towel off any excess liquid and put your clothes on.
Air Brushing
Specialty tanning salons and spas provide air brushing services. This is my favorite method because it is more natural than the spray tanning. It is more expensive than the spray tanning but I feel the superior results are worth it. It generally costs between $20 and $50 per session.
Before you tan, the attendant will explain everything you need to know and instruct you to cover your toes, nails, knees, elbows, and ears with the special lotion just like with spray tanning. They will also provide you with a cap to wear to protect your hair from being dyed.
You can go naked, or wear underwear and a bra. It is up to you and keep in mind that a person will be in the room spraying you so you want to feel comfortable. The attendant will instruct you to do many different positions and will spray you with a professional sprayer.
It is important with both methods that you do not get wet or sweat for at least 6 hours! Staying moisturized is extremely important to maintain your tan so that it does not flake or look blotchy.
