The Elizabeth Arden anti wrinkle cream is a much-hyped cream, which its promoters say is one of the best anti aging products on the market today (and it has a price tag to match). There are, as with most products, a lot of mixed reviews – just searching the web shows that one end of the scale has people who are in love with the cream, while the other end shows some people break out in a nasty rash when trying it for the first time.
For the people that it does work for, its main selling points is that it includes a particularly potent antioxidant. This is similar to how many anti aging products work — but why is an antioxidant important for this type of product?
Oxygen is absolutely essential for any life. That why it’s somewhat ironic that the oxygen we need to survive is also what ages our bodies and eventually, unless we killed by something else first, we’ll die from it.
What this mean is that cells are constantly damaged by oxidation. This oxidation occurs when compounds called free radicals enter the body or the skin. The free radical is a compound that either has a charge due to having too many or too few electrons. This means they’re very reactive, either eager to give up the electrons to become stable or wanting to take on more electrons. When they’re in the body, they’ll take away these electrons from cells in the body, which actually damages them. Antioxidants help to counteract this effect.
It’s all a perfectly natural process, but if we are to counteract it as much as possible and try to reduce its effects in the body (and especially on the skin) we can try to minimize any premature aging of skin. That’s why antioxidants are so important when it comes to anti aging skin products.
